Complete patent specification drafting & filing
Complete Specification Filing Services
Turn your invention into a carefully documented patent application, with technical disclosure, claim drafting and filing strategy aligned to your commercial objectives.
For innovators, startups, R&D teams and technology businesses.
Why it matters
Your Invention Needs More Than an Early Filing Date
Complete specification preparation is more than filling out a form. It means documenting the invention, describing how it works, evaluating the technical material and developing appropriately supported claims. A filing date alone does not guarantee enforceable rights, broad claims or commercial exclusivity.
Fully document the invention
Prepare an application that describes the technical invention, not just a placeholder.
Claims grounded in the disclosure
Define claims based on the technical subject matter actually described.
Provisional to complete, on time
Move from a provisional filing to a complete specification within the applicable deadline.
Ready for due diligence
Support investor review, licensing discussions and commercialization with organized documentation.
Coordinated jurisdictions
Align filing plans across India, the US and other relevant markets.
Before planned disclosure
Document the invention before a pitch, publication or launch, where filing is appropriate and available.

About provisional filingProvisional to complete
Already Filed a Provisional Patent Application? Plan Your Complete Specification.
The complete specification must adequately support the subject matter for which the earlier priority date is claimed. New matter or later-developed features may not automatically receive the earlier date and may need separate analysis or a different filing strategy. New to provisional filing? See our provisional patent application filing service.
- Approaching a statutory deadline
- Preparing for a funding round or investor due diligence
- Refining a prototype or developing additional technical embodiments
- Preparing claims for a complete application
- Considering India, US or international filing routes
India
Where Section 9(1) of the Indian Patents Act applies, a complete specification following a provisional must be filed within 12 months from the provisional filing date; otherwise the application is deemed abandoned.
United States
A US provisional generally requires a corresponding nonprovisional application within 12 months to claim its benefit, subject to applicable rules and exceptions.
Readiness checklist

- 9
Earlier filings and disclosures
Provisional details, related filings, publications, demonstrations, sales activity and disclosure dates.
- 10
Target jurisdictions and plans
Intended markets, funding milestones, licensing opportunities and launch timelines.
The exact information needed depends on the invention, filing route and applicable law. Start with a non-confidential summary; sensitive documents are shared later through a secure process.
Filing before disclosure
Planning to Pitch, Publish or Launch? Review Your Filing Strategy First.
Founders and inventors often decide when to file relative to investor presentations, demonstrations, conference talks, publications, crowdfunding, customer trials or launches. An appropriately prepared and filed application may establish a filing or priority date for adequately disclosed subject matter, and a timely filing may reduce the risk that a later public disclosure becomes prior art against it.
Before Investor Meetings
Review filing readiness before sharing technical details about the invention.
Before Product Launches
Consider an appropriate filing strategy before making the invention publicly available.
Before Publications or Demonstrations
Assess disclosure timing, confidentiality and relevant filing jurisdictions.
Filing does not automatically eliminate self-prior-art risk, preserve foreign rights or protect matter not adequately disclosed. Grace periods vary by jurisdiction, and an NDA or confidential pitch may be treated differently from public disclosure — the actual circumstances matter.

Complete Specification Filing for India, the US & International Markets
India
- Complete specification drafting and patent application filing support
- Support for applicants proceeding directly with a complete specification
- Completing an application previously filed with a provisional specification
- Application documents, claims, abstract, drawings and filing coordination
- Deadline tracking and planning for subsequent prosecution steps
The Indian framework permits provisional and complete specifications, subject to statutory requirements. The appropriate route depends on application history, disclosure and objectives.

- US provisional strategy and follow-on nonprovisional planning, where relevant
- Complete nonprovisional specification preparation and claim drafting
- Technical disclosure review and drawing coordination
- Filing coordination with attention to priority claims and deadlines
A US provisional application is not examined on its merits and does not itself mature into a patent. The later nonprovisional must satisfy the relevant requirements to obtain the provisional date for supported subject matter.

- Priority-based filing strategy for relevant target countries
- PCT international application coordination where appropriate
- National-phase or direct foreign filing planning, subject to applicable requirements
- Coordination of technical documentation, priority records and deadlines
The PCT provides an international filing process; it does not grant a single worldwide patent. Not every country offers a US-style provisional route, so preliminary filings are assessed under each jurisdiction's law.

Complete Specification Filing FAQs
What are Complete Specification Filing Services?
Professional support to prepare a complete patent specification — detailed description, claims, abstract and drawings — and coordinate its filing in the chosen jurisdiction. Hashi IP Solutions provides drafting and filing support, not a guarantee of grant or claim scope.
When should I file a complete patent specification?
When the invention is sufficiently developed to be fully described and claimed, or before a statutory deadline following a provisional filing. Timing also depends on planned disclosures, funding and target markets.
Can Hashi IP Solutions help after I have filed a provisional specification?
Yes. We review the provisional disclosure, identify any later-developed features, and prepare the complete specification and claims within the applicable deadline.
What happens if I miss the deadline for filing a complete specification in India?
Where Section 9(1) of the Indian Patents Act applies, the complete specification must be filed within 12 months from the provisional filing date; otherwise the application is deemed abandoned. Plan well ahead of the deadline rather than relying on any extension.
What information is required to draft a complete specification?
Typically an invention overview, the technical problem and solution, a detailed description, embodiments, drawings, any test results, inventorship details and earlier disclosures. Exact needs depend on the invention, route and applicable law.
Can a complete specification include patent claims?
Yes. A complete specification includes claims defining the scope of protection sought, which must be supported by the description. Claim scope is ultimately determined through examination.
Can I file a complete patent specification in India and the United States?
Yes, through separate filings under each country's rules — for example an Indian complete specification and a US nonprovisional application — often coordinated through priority claims or the PCT route.
Can I file directly in other countries or use the PCT route?
Both are possible depending on your markets and deadlines. The PCT provides an international filing process followed by national-phase entry; it does not grant a worldwide patent.
Should I file before an investor pitch, product launch or research publication?
It is generally advisable to review filing strategy before any public disclosure. Effects of disclosure and any grace periods vary by jurisdiction, and confidential discussions may be treated differently, so the circumstances should be reviewed.
Does an earlier filing date protect every feature developed later?
No. An earlier date can apply only to subject matter adequately disclosed in the earlier application. Later-developed features may receive a later date and may need separate analysis.
Can new features be added after a provisional filing?
New features can be described in the complete specification, but they may not receive the provisional filing date. We help identify such matter and plan an appropriate filing strategy.
How do I start a complete specification filing engagement?
Share a brief, non-confidential summary through the enquiry form. We discuss next steps, and detailed technical materials are exchanged after an NDA and secure sharing process are agreed.
