GenAI Patent Activity Nearly Triples in Two Years, WIPO Reports

WIPO reports that published GenAI patent families rose from approximately 14,000 in 2023 to more than 37,800 in 2025, with more than 56,000 new GenAI families published across 2024 and 2025.

The acceleration of GenAI patent activity signals a rapidly intensifying IP landscape. The growing volume of filings makes prior-art search, patent landscaping and competitive intelligence increasingly important before committing to new products or patent strategies.
